| Create a Successful E-newsletter >back to top |
- Build your subscriber list. This should be obvious. Grow
your subscriber list and expect higher success from your e-newsletter.
- Remain timely. Don't call it "Friday's News" if you
can't send it every Friday. But do establish a scheduled delivery
calendar.
- Prioritize messages. What's the key takeaway? Make
it prominent, clear, and interesting so people will call or click through
for more information.
- Speak with a consistent voice. Content often comes from
different sources; make sure the copy tone is consistent.
- Add customer service to your e-newsletter
recipient list.
Ensure that your all departments, especially customer service, have copies
of your e-newsletters so they can accurately respond to reader questions.
- Use your e-newsletter as a testing ground. Analyze which e-newsletters
receive the most response. You can then build future e-newsletters with
past successes in mind.
- Offer something for free. Offer something for free to
your subscribers if they call or place an order by a specified time.
- A simple statement goes a long way.
Add a simple statement at the top of every e-newsletter. New readers may
receive a thank-you for requesting the information. Ongoing subscribers are
told their patronage is appreciated. It's simple, effective, and powerful.

| Web Design Tip - Get To The Point! >back to top |
Your home page should be
clear and to the point. Within a few seconds your visitors should know what
you have to offer or what your site is about. If
people have to go
hunting, they may move on. And if your home page doesn't load within a
few seconds, that could also send your visitors elsewhere.
There is nothing more
frustrating than a site that forces you to navigate for two minutes before even
figuring out what they do, let alone offering you the information you're
looking for. Remember, if somebody is visiting your site, they are probably
looking for something...so try to make it easy for them to find it. Ask yourself
what things people might be looking for in general, and try to make those
things accessible easily from anywhere on your site.
If your site is large, you may want to offer a way of searching your site, or at least contacting somebody if they
don't find what they're looking for. Make sure that visitors don't have to wade
through endless links to get somewhere, and conversely, make sure they don't
have to scroll down ten screens worth to find what they want.
Keep in mind that a
frustrated visitor probably won't be a visitor for long.
