Their site now comes up #1 and #2 on yahoo.com when someone searches for Detroit Jewelry Design, and #2 in google.com local results (results on 4/12/2005). This is an important phrase that represents the custom design that Facets provides and they wanted to make sure that anyone searching for this service would find them. Using refined phrases in your searches will bring back more specific results in a search engine. If someone types in the word Jewelry in most search engines, there will be over 93 million results, and the likelihood of a high rank isn't usually good when such broad searches are used.

There are many things that can be done to help optimize your web site for search engines, such as having other web sites linked to your site. In theory, and what we've seen in practice, search engines will see your web site as being important and rank it higher if you have many links to your site. If you know businesses willing to link to your site and vice-versa, ask your Webmaster to make this happen on your site as soon as possible.

How search engines rank results is somewhat of a secret and results can change at any time. This way online marketers and developers can't beat the search engines and manipulate it into higher results, although there are some tricks such as keyword stuffing in your web pages that have mixed results. Some methods to try and trick search engines can have the opposite effect and hurt your search ranking since the search engines take these strategies into account and may actually rank you lower as a result.
